How to get Passport? Complete process 2025
➤Any Indian citizen who is 18 years of age or above.
➤For children (below 18 years) Minor Passport process is as follows.
Step-by-Step Process (As of 2025)
➤Visit the website:
- Click on “New User Registration”
- Create an account with User ID, Password, Email and Mobile Number
- Login and select “Apply for Fresh Passport” or “Re-Issue of Passport” option.
- Fill in the form with name, date of birth, address, personal details, emergency contact etc.
- Preview the form and submit.
- Select your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office PSK.
- Select an available date and time.
- Pay application fee online (Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, UPI).
- Type Fee (Normal) Fee (Tatkal)
- Normal Passport (36 pages) ₹1,500 ₹3,500
- Minor Passport ₹1,000 ₹3,000
- Go to PSK on the day of appointment
- Carry the required documents
- Aadhar card, birth certificate, address proof, passport size photo (if required)
- Your photo, fingerprint, and signature will be taken
- After the PSK visit, police verification is done from the police station of your area.
- In this, they confirm your address.
- The passport is made once the police verification is cleared.
- The passport is delivered to your address by India Post.
- Usually you get it within 7–15 working days (Tatkal) 1–3 days).

Step-by-Step: Online Update Process
- If you are already registered then login.
- Otherwise create a new account by clicking on “New User Registration”.
- After login, click on “Apply for Re-issue of Passport” option.
- Select the reason for correction in the form.
- Change in Existing Personal Particulars.
- Then tell which information you want to correct.
Enter your old information and the correction you want.
Scan and upload the correct document (like new address proof, birth certificate etc.)
- Select your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office PSK .
- Go to PSK on the day of appointment.
- Your fingerprint, photo, signature and documents will be checked there.
- It is necessary to carry the documents for correction in original.
- Some corrections may require police verification again (especially in case of change of address or name).
- After correction, you will get a new passport as a re-issue.
- The old passport can also be cancelled and returned.
- The new passport will be sent to your address within 7–15 working days.
- Correction process is a kind of “Re-Issue of Passport”.
- Correction is valid only if correct documents are available for it.
- Only correct and verified information should be given.

Important Note
e-Passport means digital passport (chip-based physical passport), not a downloadable passport in PDF format.
In India, e-Passport is a physical passport with an electronic chip embedded in it. It cannot be downloaded like a digital passbook, such as e-Aadhaar or e-PAN.
